The following individuals will be inducted into the Iowa Association of Track and Field Coaches (IATC) Hall of Fame, in Ames, December 7, 2019.

Tim Bell-Marshalltown High School, Coach

40 years as a Track and Field and/or XC Coach.  32 years as XC at Marshalltown.   In XC: 3 state runner-up teams.  3 state meet 3rd place teams.  25 state meet team appearances, 18 in a row, 10 conference team titles, 11 state qualifying meet team titles.  3 Individual state champions.  1998-State team champions.  15 time Regional CoY.  11X Conference CoY.   Averaged 47 athletes on his team for 32 years.

George Saling, Corydon, Athlete.

As a senior at the University of Iowa, George Saling, was considered among the hurdling greats of the world in 1932. He set records in many meets that year, including Drake Relays with a record setting time in the high hurdles of 14:4 seconds. In the National Collegiate championships, he set a new record at 14:1, this was also a world record.  In the first heat of the Olympic 110 meter high hurdles Saling came in second to Don Finlay of Great Britain. He opened up in the semi’s and broke an Olympic record at 14:4. In the finals with an Olympic championship at stake, the competitors took off at the shot in a life and death race and Saling won gold in 14.6.

Rob Brock-Dubuque Sr. and UNI, Athlete.

Graduated HS 1997.  State Cross Country: 1993-4th, 1994-1st, 1995-1st, 1996-3rd.  Member of 1995 State XC champion team.  Track and Field: 6X champion-800 (’97), 1600 (1996) and the 3200 (’94, ’95, ’96. ’97) One of 2 Iowa preps to win four 3200 state titles.  Drake Relays-1994-3rd 3200.  1995-2nd 1600, 7th 4×800 (1:56 anchor), 1996-3200 1st (9:15.22), DMR 1st (1:54.6 anchor).  1997-1st 3200 9:12.83, 3rd 1600 4:19.61. ISHSSA All Time Best list: 1600-#30 4:16.50.  3200-#13 9:09.17.  DMR-#41 3:38.91.    In top 5 on UNI All Time Best lists: IN and OUT DMR and 1500M.  4X All Missouri Valley Conference performer.  A Missouri Valley Conference Scholar Athlete.

Ellen Ries-North Linn/U of Missouri, Athlete.

Graduated HS 2005. 13X HS state T&F Champion, 2X Cross Country Champion:  4X-800, 4X-DMR, 3X- 4×800 and 2X-1500.  Drake Relays: 2002-3rd 800, Q 4X800.  2003-1st 800, 8th 4X800.  2004-3rd 800.  2005-2nd 800.  Cross Country: 2001-4th.  2002-2nd.  2003-1st.  2004-1st.  U of Missouri-All B12 performer in 1500M.  B12 Scholar Athlete.

Faith Burt-Cedar Falls HS/Wartburg, Athlete.

Graduated HS in 2008.  13X state champion: 2005-100, 200, 4×4, SMR.  2006-100, 200, 4×2.  2007-100, 4×1, 4×2.  2008-100, 200, 4×2.  4X 4A 100M champion.  3X Drake Relays 100M champion.  Wartburg: 6X D3 national Champion.  11X D3 National Qualifier.  13X Iowa Conference champion.

Terry Hersom-Sioux City Journal, Contributor.

In 1972 he started a five-year stint as sports editor of the Ottumwa Courier before moving to the Sioux City Journal in 1977. He retired January 1, 2016 ending a 38-year career with the Journal and covering high school and collegiate sports in a three-state area. He continues to write a column and cover the Sioux City Explorers baseball team for the paper.   Many of his fellow reporters relied on him for information concerning high school and collegiate track and field athletes he covered, and his knowledge made him a splendid edition to the Sioux City Relays Hall of Fame Committee, a group he chaired for over 25 years.
