IATC Members,

These last two months have produced unprecedented times on seemingly every level imaginable. The cancellation of our track & field season has created challenges that have never been seen or experienced across our state. These challenges have led to many cancellations and modifications as we move forward in the near future.

One major adaptation that we have been forced to make due to current social distancing restrictions across the state of Iowa will be to our Spring Meeting that was originally set for June 7th and then moved to June 13th. Because we cannot have a large group of people together we will instead be having our Spring Meeting through a virtual platform. We are working out those details but our Spring Meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 20th at 7pm. More information will be shared when it is solidified.

The IATC has always maintained an extremely high standard for our Academic All-State awards. But one of the criteria is that the student-athletes must be a qualifier or an alternate at the state track & field meet. With no state meet taking place in May; we are making a one year exception to this rule. The IATC Academic All-State criteria, for the 2020 season only, includes the following:

  • Must be a senior
  • 3.8 or higher cumulative grade point average
  • A composite score of 28 or higher on the ACT
  • A Coed State Meet qualifier/alternate in at least one (1) event from the 2019 season (as a junior only)
  • The school in which the student-athlete competes for must be a paid and current member of the IATC

Nominations can begin any point by completing the following form online: https://www.iowarunjumpthrow.com/track-and-field/track-field-all-state/iatc-academic-all-state-nomination-form/

Due to the cancellation of the high school track & field season after four short weeks and the cancellation of the entire middle school season; the IATC will not have any Coach of the Year Awards or All-State Awards for the 2020 track and field season. Also, because of the cancellation of our seasons coupled with social distancing guidelines/gatherings; the IATC regrets to inform you that we will be cancelling the following events for 2020: The Sr. Spotlight Meet that was rescheduled for June 13th, the Middle School and High School Pentathlon that was rescheduled for June 13th, and both the Mike Henderson Boys and Girls Middle School State Track & Field Meets that were rescheduled for June 27th.  With that being said, we are planning to tentatively host an “all-comers” type of open track & field meet on July 11th at Northview Middle School in Ankeny.  Please look for more information about this meet to be released in the near future.

Thank you for all that you do for our association and the great student-athletes across Iowa. If you have any questions, please contact IATC President Jared Fletcher at jared.fletcher@carlislecsd.org or via cell at (515) 822-8028.

Be safe, stay healthy, and we wish you all the best moving forward in these unique times.
